I really can’t say enough about the fantastic job that FSBD did on my outdoor deck and patio project. My first... introduction to the company was Joe who came out to talk about my project. I found Joe to be knowledgeable and great to consult with about options to make our vision come to life. Once the project kicked off, the on-site team, from carpentry (Tom & Riley), to masonry were fantastic. The guys worked diligently, and made very little noise or mess. Pete was the project manager and also phenomenal throughout, particularly when we had to make a few adjustments throughout. My neighbors commented on how great everything turned out. The communication throughout from Joe and Pete was also wonderful and I never had to worry about providing feedback or getting questions answered along the way.If you are considering FSBD, rest assured your expectations will be more than met!- Omar & Andiread more

First State Building & Design made our outdoor living space dream into a reality. My wife and I could not be happier... with our experience from initial consultation, design process, demolition and construction.Joe helped us envision what would be possible within our budget and design constraints of our home. He had a few excellent ideas that took the design to the next level for us - such as a phantom screen and raising the existing covered porch floor with the deck. Joe was also very patient with us as we made minor design tweaks to ensure everything was perfect.Our project manager was Pete, and he deserves the highest praise. Pete provided incredible service for us, and ensured that we were informed every step of the way. Pete was at our house almost daily checking on progress and communicating next steps. Pete worked hard to ensure that our outdoor space would be usable in time for our baby shower, which was a pleasant surprise.The quality of their work is top notch. Every person that worked on the project was extremely respectful to our property and our family. Exceeded my expectations by so much! From the very first interaction with the Admin Assistant when we scheduled our... deck, to our Sales Representative (CJ) to the very end with John. This entire experience has been one of the best experiences we've ever had with a contractor company. Our deck has changed to the whole look of our home with just a few weeks, and we've been getting compliments about our deck. Our neighbors were also done by FSBD. First State built our new composite deck, replacing and expanding our old wood deck. We opted for aluminum rails with... lights. The results are spectacular and the quality of workmanship is outstanding. Many thanks!read more

We used FSBD to build a 3 season room and an outdoor kitchen off the back of our house. Joe was excellent in walking us... through the process, communicating next steps, and listening thoroughly to what we had envisioned. The construction crew was lead by Matt, I cannot say enough good about him and his team. They were friendly and unobtrusive, the site was cleaned up daily, and they went above and beyond in every aspect. He was very communicative and kept us up to date on every aspect of the project. We could not be happier with the results, it came out even better than we imagined.read more

4.5 Stars. FSBD did an incredible job on our porch renovation with Sunspace WeatherMaster screen/window installation.... New favorite part of our home. Completed the whole project in 2.5 days. Joe was very responsive throughout the entire process. I also used their electricians who were excellent and worked in tandem with the team making it seamless. Some minor finishes and paint splatters could have been improved, but overall, very satisfied with their work. They did also send someone back out to address any concerns or critiques. I would use FSBD again in the future.read more

Note: I have included the original review in the attachments.3/9/22 Update:After posting my original review of FSBD... I received multiple emails lamenting the fact that I was not willing to speak with him one on one. I have attached those emails for clarity.I have also posted the entire BBB complaint to date to illustrate the method and manner with which the owner of this company will communicate.Finally, I have attached what I feel to be the critical piece of evidence that my position is justified. To Sum:- The contract (attached) was vaguely written, with no mention of any railing besides those on the steps from the deck to the yard even though railing was required around the perimeter of the deck.- The Sales Manager, who is also the person who wrote the contract, sent me a text stating that the railing in question, from the sliding glass door to the deck itself should have been in the contract. (attached)- The Sales Manager / Contract Writer owned that the mistake was internal to FSBD and the cost should be owned by a representative of FSBD. They assume it would come from their check since the drafter is no longer employed by FSB. (attached)To Sum:- The deck is gorgeous (images attached).- I cannot speak highly enough of the Sales Manager, and the builders; both their work and professionalism.- The deck would not have been built to code without the railing from the sliding glass door to the deck.- I have worked with the Sales Manager / Contract Writer throughout this disagreement.- I have proven to be more than capable of accepting when I am wrong by agreeing to pay the $750 demo charge that was originally missed in the contract. This was a complete miscommunication on my side when discussing the work with the Sales manager.- I have tried to solve this through multiple communication channels (working with sales manager and the BBB).- The owner is unwilling to accept responsibility for the errors made at FSBD.read more

FSBD removed two support posts and reinforced the ceiling beams in our garage. The crews were professional, courteous... and did great work. I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars because of how long the job took. We made our first down payment on the project in March but the work didn't actually start until mid October. Most of the issues were supply chain related and out of FSBDs control but what was frustrating was the lack of communication. The job was originally supposed to start in Jun, and after it did not we had to reach out to them several times throughout the following months for status updates. The communication eventually got better after we expressed our frustration but it would behoove FSBD to be more proactive to their customers when there are delays, especially in this environment.That being said, the wait was worth it and we are happy with the work that FSBD did on the garage. It's nice being able to open our car doors without banging them into weirdly placed posts.read more

This was our second project with FSBD. The professionalism, attention to detail and the efficiency with completion of... the project was outstanding. Joe, Pete and the rest of the crew were extremely easy to work with, knowledgeable and receptive to our needs. I would recommend them without hesitation. Joe and company took care of me from day one of the project. They were professional and focused on getting me the... kitchen of my dreams. They listened to my ideas and didn’t treat me like just another customer. They were responsive to any questions or concerns I had along the way and explained any changes or pivots in the project. Working with FSBD was a breath of fresh air. Their crew was always on time and worked so hard to get our project... finished, and with all of the obstacles of today's materials/delivery issues, they made it seamless to us, the customer. CJ, Joe, and the paver crew have been so amazing and responsive to our needs and changes. It wasn't easy for them but they managed get our job finished and we are very pleased with the end product. We used FSBD to tear down and replace our 30 year old deck. Rand, our sales manager, carefully walked us through... alternatives and answered all of our questions.When winter ended, our project manager, Ben, arranged for scheduling, dumpster and porta-potty to make the process run smoothly. Our building crew of Todd and Miguel fought through rain and cold weather to complete our 16' x 14' deck in eight days. They were extremely professional in all ways in order to match our expectations as well as the requirements of our local township. We used a Timber-tech composite decking, a shoreline vinyl railing and lattice to finish the bottom.Our dealings with the office staff as well as Joe, the owner, was the finishing touch to a job well done.We highly recommend FSBD!!read more

I really enjoyed working with FSBD. From beginning to end, they provided excellent communication and service. They... took all our needs into consideration. The team that installed the deck were friendly and professional. They worked hard and delivered a high quality finished product. Not only was the final deck done well, they ensured the surrounding area was cleaned up and back to normal. Recently had a porch added to the front of our home. We were reassured to know that First State Building and Design... was there for us throughout the process. They came to our home and worked with us to get the details and finishes that we wanted. They made plans and applied for permits and even helped us navigate a variance needed from the county. The needed materials were delivered and the crew reported as promised and worked diligently and professionally. Each day, we were informed of progress and expectations for the next day. They kept the area clean and finished on schedule. We are delighted with our new porch and the whole new look of the front of our home.read more

We needed a portico in our backyard and we wanted something simple, but still nice looking and solidly built. First... State worked with us to figure out exactly what would work and at a price that we were comfortable with given this was not going to a grand front door portico. We absolutely love what they built, it fits so perfectly and is a quality structure that protects from the elements. Joe was very responsive to all my questions and I appreciated that I was treated as a valued and important customer even though our project was modest. If you have a project large or small, I highly recommend FSBD!read more

Joe and his crew did an excellent job on our deck. Once the project began it went quickly. Joe provided invaluable... advice and addressed all of our concerns during the planning phase. He also helped us find ways to reduce costs. In my experience with other contractors, if they seem resistant to addressing concerns or don't provide constructive advice their work is low quality. This is certainly not the case with Joe's team! Not only is it quality work but they provide amazing customer support.In terms of price, we did market research and found the price was fair for the type/quality of deck.My only negative would be the project started a couple of weeks later than expected. The reason for this was mostly related to weather so it was out of their control.read more
